Would You Like Two Wheels or Four?
The Segway Centaur

Segway Centaur

The Segway Centaur -- think the original Segway human transporter, but on four wheels and can go up to 20 mph. Not only that, you can just lift the front tires, shift your weight and you're navigating on two wheels! I can onliy imagine how much it costs.

Guess the Google

Guess the Google

It's time for Guess the Google!!!

From the web site...
After creating Montage-a-google, several people wrote to me suggesting I make a game based on the same technology. Montage-a-google is a simple web app that uses Google's image search to generate a large gridded montage of images based on keywords (search terms) entered by the user. Guess-the-google reverses this process by picking the keywords for you, the player must then guess what keyword made up the image - it's surprisingly addictive.

Fitts' Law

Fitt's Law

Fitts' Law is essential to designing functional pieces that require the user to aim at a target. Don't you just love wikipedia?

From the site:
In ergonomics, Fitts' law (or Fitts's law) is a principle of human movement published in 1954 by Paul Fitts which predicts the time required to move from a starting position to a final target area. The kind of motion it describes is aimed and rapid. The time needed to acquire a target is a function of the distance to the target, and the size of the target. Fitts' law is used to model the act of pointing, both in the real world, e.g. with a hand or finger, and on a computer, e.g. with a mouse.

Nat'l Geographic's The Genographic Project

The Genographic Project

I just think this is so fascinating. The cost to participate might be a bit steep, but worth it to some.

From the site:
Public participation, including yours, is critical to the Genographic Project's success. Here's how you can get involved:

Purchasing a Public Participation Kit will fund important research around the world—and open the door to the ancient past of your own genetic background.

With a simple and painless cheek swab you can sample your own DNA. You'll submit the sample through our secure, private, and completely anonymous system, then log on to the project Web site to track your personal results online.

This is not a genealogy test and you won't learn about your great grandparents. You will learn, however, of your deep ancestry, the ancient genetic journeys and physical travels of your distant relatives.
